GE HealthCare and MediView XR have successfully implemented their co-developed OmnifyXR Interventional Suite System in a clinical setting. This system combines GE’s imaging technology with MediView’s augmented reality and surgical navigation platform to improve assessment of patient anatomy, enable informed clinical decision-making, and facilitate remote collaboration among care teams. The platform allows for displaying up to four video streams simultaneously, interacting with a 3D model of patient anatomy, and collaborating remotely with other healthcare providers.
Dr. Jafar Golzarian, a professor of radiology and founder of North Star Vascular and Interventional, used OmnifyXR for two procedures: embolization of a prostate artery and embolization of a genicular artery. He praised the system for its heads-up display and augmented reality capabilities, especially the 3D anatomical view provided by the hologram scan. He believes the system has the potential to improve clinical and operational outcomes for both patients and clinicians.
MediView XR, based in Ohio, received FDA clearance for its AR surgical navigation system XR90 and secured $15 million in strategic funding. The company also entered into a know-how agreement with Mayo Clinic in 2022 to accelerate innovation and advance procedural augmented reality solutions. Other players in the surgical extended reality space include Augmedics, a company offering an augmented reality surgical navigation platform, and Osso VR, a virtual reality surgical training and assessment platform.
The HIMSS AI in Healthcare Forum is scheduled to take place in Boston on September 5-6, providing a platform for industry professionals to learn more about the latest developments in artificial intelligence in healthcare. This event will likely feature discussions on the use of technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality in clinical settings, showcasing innovative solutions and advancements in the field.
Overall, the successful clinical use of the OmnifyXR Interventional Suite System represents a significant milestone in the collaboration between GE HealthCare and MediView XR. With the potential to improve clinical outcomes, enhance workflow efficiency, and enable remote collaboration, this system could have a substantial impact on the future of interventional procedures and patient care.
