At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung introduced a series of new AI-powered devices aimed at enhancing health and wellness through advanced technology. Among the new offerings are the Galaxy Ring, the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and the updated Galaxy Watch 7.
The standout debut was the Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s first foray into health-monitoring rings, retailing at $399. This device is designed for continuous health tracking, operating around the clock to monitor the user’s heart health, sleep patterns, physical activity, and more. Equipped with three specialized sensors, it keeps tabs on various metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality through detailed sleep analysis—including snoring patterns and sleep latency—and cycle tracking through overnight skin temperature checks. Additionally, the Ring analyzes these metrics to calculate the wearer’s Energy Score, which informs whether they should relax or push their limits.
The Galaxy Ring integrates seamlessly with the Samsung Health app, providing alerts for abnormal heart rates and other personalized health insights directly on the app without requiring a subscription. Noteworthy for its durability and long battery life, the Ring can last up to a week on a single charge and is crafted from robust titanium, designed to endure various environmental conditions.
Another significant announcement was the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which starts at $649 and introduces new BioActive Sensors. These sensors offer improved accuracy in collecting and analyzing health data thanks to technological enhancements such as additional LED colors and optimized photodiode arrangement. These upgrades allow for more accurate measurements of heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep quality, and stress levels. The Watch Ultra is also equipped with new health monitoring capabilities, including a CE-marked blood pressure monitor in the EU, and an FDA-approved ECG and a De Novo authorization for detecting signs of sleep apnea in the U.S.
Furthermore, the BioActive Sensor measures the Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) Index, indicating metabolic health and biological age. It also includes an integrated GPS tracker powered by Google. The Watch Ultra, running on Google’s Wear OS, promises a 30% improvement in heart rate measurement accuracy compared with its predecessors.
Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Watch 7, priced at $299, which shares many features with the Watch Ultra but lacks the advanced athletic tracking and emergency siren. This model focuses more on general wellness rather than the intensive health features found in the Watch Ultra.
All these new devices will be available for purchase starting July 24th. This launch represents Samsung’s increased commitment to integrating AI technology into health and wellness, potentially transforming how individuals monitor and understand their health data. The company’s strategic use of advanced sensors and AI-powered analysis demonstrates a significant step forward in wear-related technology and personal health management, emphasizing preventive health care and personalized wellness insights.
